Meet Petra Nobel
Petra Nobel
Before Petra came to Canada, her life started in the Netherlands, including the beginning of her professional life as a nursing assistant. Immersed in Dutch culture & philosophy, it was expected that all new mothers would receive the benefit of in-home maternity care as soon as the baby was born. After 18 months of training she became certified to assist midwives during home births and help parents with the ebbs and flows of an expanding family.
Petra furthered her education by entering the maternity care floor of the hospital working alongside obstetricians, paediatricians, registered nurses and midwives. Simultaneously learning from the women she was supporting, their culture differences, alternative ideals and time tested practices. While of course a more medical role, the ideal of making expecting parents feel at home was weaved into care, a truly comprehensive approach amongst the entire health care team.
In Canada she continued training and became a CAPPA Certified Postpartum Doula. Working with new families is her passion. Petra knows how important it is to have somebody to reassure and answer the many questions of a new parent, regardless if they are welcoming their first or subsequent baby to their family.
She knows that a Doula Works.
As a Doula, Petra saw how many new parents struggle with their child’s sleep issues. This of course sparked the desire to specialize further, as a Maternity, Infant and Child Sleep Consultant through the International Parenting and Health Institute (IPHI).
Petra is a mother of two fun and active teenage boys who will make sure that she is always on her toes. Whenever she has the chance she will visit family back in the Netherlands and make sure to bring home drop (Dutch licorice), one of her favourite things to eat.
